Stephan Wyckaert is associate professor (ULB) and attorney-at-law. He studied at the University of Ghent where he graduated in Law (1985 , magna cum laude ) and Criminology (1987 , magna cum laude ). He was trainee barrister at the bar of Ghent in the Verstringhe law firm and partner in De Budt & Wyckaert and, from 1995 until 1998, in Callant & Partners. He also participated in the 1997 Grotius Project on international legal cooperation (funded by the European Commission) and is alumnus of the Institute for Humane Studies Europe (since 1998 : Institute for Economic Studies).
On June 12th, 2003 he became LL.D. (doctor of laws) with a dissertation on the concept of administrative regularisation. Currently he is a lawyer in Brussels, member of the Public Law Department at Janson Baugniet, the oldest full-service law firm in Belgium. He also lectures at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
Stephan Wyckaert has given lectures in Belgium and abroad, most of them about public law and/or freedom-related issues. He is author of a large number of articles on public law issues. He has organized or participated in several international projects and seminars. He is also member of the editorial board of "Chroniques de droit public - Publiekrechtelijke Kronieken", one of the very few law reviews that obtained an "A" ranking from the Flemish Interuniversitary Council.
